About
A small editorial site about hiking.
Mondohiking publishes trail guides, trip reports, and gear notes for people who love being outside. The site is run from a single repository and edited as plain text — no sponsored posts, no affiliate links, no algorithm hikes.
What we publish
- Trail guides. Distance, elevation, season, and what the path is really like. We mark guides as either walked ourselves (most useful) or researched (a clear badge so you know we haven't been there yet).
- Trip reports. Slow stories from longer trips. Less useful for planning, more useful for the reason you wanted to go in the first place.
- Guides. The boring-but-essential stuff: rules and regulations, seasonal advice, shelter systems, what to do when the weather turns.
- Gear. Only what we've used long enough to break, lose, or come to trust.
How we credit photography
Most of the photography on this site is from Unsplash while we build out our own library. Every photographer is credited on the page their image appears on, with a link back to their profile. We trigger Unsplash's download endpoint for every photo we use, as their terms require.
As we walk more trails ourselves, photos will be replaced with our own. You'll see fewer credits over time — that's the goal.
How we work
The site is built with Astro and hosted as static files. There is no comment system, no sign-up wall, and no analytics tracking individuals. It loads fast on a slow phone in a bad-signal valley, which is roughly the point.
How to reach us
Email and social channels will be added soon. For now, this is a one-direction site: words go out, nothing comes in. That changes shortly.
Mondohiking is a work in progress. The shop, the email list, and the original-photography library are all still being built. Thanks for being here early.
